At Ellipse Health, we often meet clients who have spent years stuck in a cycle of dieting, calorie restriction, and disappointment. Many come to us feeling frustrated, exhausted, and convinced that they need to eat less and exercise more to achieve results. But our clinical experience, supported by research, shows that chronic calorie restriction backfires. Instead, our Eat More to Lose Weight approach focuses on nourishing the body with the right foods, protecting metabolism, and improving long-term health outcomes.
Recently, we documented the results of 10 patients who followed this method, and the transformations were remarkable.

The Eat More to Lose Weight Method
Unlike traditional diets that focus on cutting calories, our approach is designed to fuel the body:
Eat to satiety - no calorie counting, no food scales, no restriction.
Protein and fat first - patients are given minimum portion targets to ensure adequate intake for muscle, hormones, and metabolism.
Prioritise real foods - nutrient-dense meals prioritised over processed, packaged products.
Personalised supplement plans - where clinically necessary to fill nutrient gaps.
Ongoing education and support - empowering patients to build confidence in their choices and sustain long-term changes.
Case Series Results: 10 Patients, 10 Transformations
All 10 patients in this series came to Ellipse Health with a history of restrictive dieting and declining health. Prior to working with Ellipse Health Dietitians, many reported:
Low energy and fatigue
Mental health concerns (stress, anxiety, low mood)
Disordered eating patterns (yo-yo dieting, binge-restrict cycles)
Poor metabolic health despite “trying everything”
By shifting from a starvation-based model to a nourishment-first approach, patients achieved improvements across physical, psychological, and metabolic health. Documented outcomes included:
Calorie intake increased: from an average of 1,401 kcal/day to 2,190 kcal/day.
Body weight decreased: from an average of 108 kg to 98 kg.
Energy levels improved: at baseline, 0% of patients reported “high” energy, while after intervention, 50% reported high or significantly improved energy. All patients reported more consistent energy throughout the day, no longer reliant on sugar or caffeine.
Better Relationship With Food: Freedom from calorie counting and binge–restrict cycles.
Mental Health Gains: Reduced anxiety around food and improved confidence.
Metabolic Health: Resting metabolism supported rather than suppressed, making weight management sustainable.

Beyond the Numbers
One participant so beautifully described their toxic history with dieting for weight loss and shared insights from their experience participating in Ellipse Health's Eat More to Lose Weight program:
"I have been a professional dieter for 57 years. As a teenager I had no idea of nutrition. At every stage I learnt and listened and experimented. On reflection the professional advice that I received was probably what was taught to them at university. I feel confident that what they were selling worked for them, so why not for me? I did all the trendy help programs such as Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers you name it I tried it. When I was not successful I was accused of cheating.
I had spent decades with weekly migraines and encouraged to eat fewer than 800 calories daily. When this did not work I was dropped to fewer than 600 calories daily. At no time were carbs mentioned, just calories in and calories out. Sadly, some GPs still believe this mantra. Diet culture taught me I had to be doing something wrong.
I found Jessica after listening to her podcast. I feel so very fortunate to have found her. She listened to my story and my non science background observations. I am approaching my third month working with Jessica and I have achieved a level of health and energy that I did not believe possible.
The bathroom scales have not always been my friend and I have threatened to change the battery when they remained on the same number. All jokes aside, I have more than doubled my daily intake with real food and not gained weight."

Key Takeaway
This case series of 10 patients demonstrates that eating more - when it’s the right balance of protein, healthy fats, and real foods - can be more effective and sustainable than eating less. It challenges the outdated narrative that success requires restriction and deprivation.
At Ellipse Health, our Eat More to Lose Weight approach shows that fuelling the body properly - with professional support and guidance - can transform lives.
